Mercedes-Benz stir things up as the C-Class is nearing the midway point in its life cycle. Since the current car was introduced as a 2015 model, the spy photos couldn’t have been more perfectly timed to leave us guessing that an updated 2019 model is on the way.
The number of prototypes spotted reveal minor tweaks are made to the exterior design of this small sedan. Changes such as in the internals of the lights and new bumpers are evident. One of the earlier prototypes even showed that the headlights resembled the latest E-Class.
On the inside you will see a new touchpad controller located at the center of the console. This replaces the rotary dial found in most Mercedes models nowadays. The steering wheel also dons a new design and has numerous control features.
Furthermore, the updated C-Class will likely adopt Mercedes’ next-generation engines which debuted in the 2018 S-Class. The powertain features efficiency improvements like replacing the starter motor and alternator with a single electric version to provide a performance boost, and new engines with 6-cylinder units moving to an inline and modular design.
What remains constant with the models is the analog instrument cluster. Although there’s also a digital instrument cluster made to fit the C-class.
