Is a 7 ton Russian limo worth $160,000?

Здравствуйте! Я – автомобильный блогер! Zdravstvuyte! Ya – avtomobil’nyy bloger! If you’re a fan of Russian things, it’s got to be their military, their drinks (Vodka) and their cars. Namely, the 7 ton Aurus Senat.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. How does a luxury car model weigh seven tons? Well, if you know your cars, the Senat is actually the same type of car Vladrimir Putin himself uses to travel round Russia.

And the car comes in an unarmored version as well as the armored version.

I have to say upfront that this is just astounding. Have you heard of the Humvee part-replacement called the L-ATV? It only weighs 6.4 tons and that thing was meant for actual combat.

This? It’s got 600 kilos more weight in armor than a dedicated combat vehicle and it was meant for luxury. See what I mean about being a fan of Russian things? Find me a luxury sedan that has more armor than an actual, dedicated fighting vehicle. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Oh, sorry, there aren’t any.

Sure, the M-ATV weighs between 13 to 15 tons but that’s just an experimental vehicle (technically). The L-ATV is the actual vehicle that’ll be used (after the JLTV program).

So, is this thing worth $160,000? Hell, yes! To give you a comparison, the – lighter weight – L-ATV costs between $430,000 and $560,000 and the M-ATV costs $450,000.

In my personal opinion, I’d recommend that Aurus sell at a slightly higher price. Like, say, $200,000 to $300,000. Because why would you not drive an armored luxury car?

This thing is safer than a Humvee and has pretty much the same level of luxury as a Roller so why would you choose anything else? If you’ve got the money, buy the Aurus Senat.

Heck, buy two. Or three.
